Sorry, it can't be a let, but you could do the following, I think
```
defvar RV32 = DefaultMode;
```

And then in an example pulled from below:
```
def XLenVT : ValueTypeByHwMode<[RV64, RV32],
                               [i64,  i32]>;
```
