In the meantime, Gergely's patches can proceed, including some local work.

Once PLT rewriting is in main, we can refactor the BTI work to go through this route, which should improve coverage for the GNU Linker. Also, it could be the precursor to your attempt at a full-binary rewriting mode.

I believe we are aligned on this direction, including Maksim (see [comment](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/169663#pullrequestreview-3667612928)).
