I'm inclined to not accept this change because it sounds like it is an optimization rather than fixing a bug or regression on the release branch. Can you confirm whether my understanding of this change is correct or not? And if it is an optimization and you still would like it merged into the release branch, can you comment why it would be preferred to have it now instead of waiting for 24.x?
