an optional string view is kind of funny; you could use the empty view as denoting "nothingness."  Then your return type would just be a string_view and instead of `cpp::nullopt` you'd return `{}` for a default constructed and thus empty string view.

But I the uses of these is in your follow up patch, so hard to guess if that messes up the ergonomics of these too much. Just a suggestion.
