Thanks for implementing this! I read the diff once and despite its size, I didn't spot any issues.

I also added other maintainers of the project as reviewers; and started job in our CI system that analyzes a dozen open source projects with this patch.

If that CI run doesn't reveal any problems, the change LGTM.
