This does sound hypothetical.

I understand that my change is an ABI change, and I'm not opposed to controlling it with a flag if there's demand, but it wasn't clear to me if there actually is demand or if you're just ticking the box here.

Anyway, I'm also about to go on vacation, so I'll have to leave this review to others. I'm okay with either outcome.
