I think we should think harder what to call this.
Aside from the naming, this suggests to me that this must be called exactly once. I wish we had some way to enforce/imply this beyond its name. - Have you considered an r-value reference method? Or having this method return something that would be needed at the call-sites to enforce a natural dependency (this could be some artificial token as well).
