Since this is the second necro-bump in three years, it's clear some still care about it. But the original framing is outdated and unsupported. 

All I'm asking is to reframe the problem in a way that exposes what's broken without reference to the unsupported usage (the issue the PR claims to fix). 

The best way forward is to create a new RFC on it and a new PR, and not to bump again a discussion that happened over three years.
