Agreed on moving to `isinstance`-based subclasses. Converting to draft and reworking — I'll migrate the existing `is_a_*` predicates to subclasses in the same PR, and rewrite the description with a concrete OpaqueLoc use case. If you don't mind, will re-request once it's ready.
