Definitely more accurate, but I'd try something shorter:
* `Unexpected dim expression (outside the set of the default result dims)`.
But then it's not clear that this is for a specific indexing map (out of possible 3). So, perhaps:
* `Unexpected dim expression in one of the maps (outside the set of the default result dims for that map)`
But then that's quite long as well :(
