Right, I guess the issue is that we need to technically handle both because of direct linking. With dynamic linking we can just leave the functions as-is and use the version to decide whether to call them. That's more reliable than relying on `dlsym` being `NULL`. Honestly tempted to just remove the non-dynamic path, because supporting both just makes things complicated for questionable gain.
