LGTM, but will wait to vitaly's approval prior to merge as he requested this change (according to the PR description, I have not triple checked the other PR in detail).

As for fixing the whitespace issue - I don't see the whitespace in the reported line so I can't comment. I personally wouldn't opposite a whitespace drive-by fix as part of this PR, so I would encourage you to add that here if it's small enough. Please note that other reviews may disagree.
