Maybe explain a bit why we are doing this: We have found a list of pairs of old and new lines that we could make to match by assigning appropriate metavar names.
But there could be crossings (i.e. pairs (o1, n1) and (o2, n2) with o1 < o2 and n1 > n2), and crossing pairs cannot be aligned in a diff simultaneously, so we compute a maximum non-crossing subset.
