Thanks for looking into this.
I've also started looking into the miscompile, and it seems like it may be
a regalloc bug, but I'm not entirely sure yet.

Regarding the spills - a slight increase in register pressure is expected.
If before we generated something like:

cmpl 0x0,%eax
setne %al
movzbl %al, %eax

Where there were no other free registers, then using the xor idiom will
necessarily cause a spill, since an extra register is required. One way to
handle this would be to run the pass post-RA, and give up when the register
that's def'd by the setcc is alive before the instruction that defs eflags,
but I'm afraid that may cause us to miss opportunities.

Is the spilling you've seen consistent with that, or is it something worse?
