Hi David,

I agree it's quite large. Perhaps the new JIT interfaces might help
some here? Haven't checked them out yet.

You're also correct about the need to be ported to future chapters.
I'll commit to getting this done ASAP assuming the approach taken here
is not considered overkill by more people.
