Maybe there is a misunderstanding here---this was only intended to work 
on Hexagon and nothing else.  We are upstreaming it to make it simpler 
for us to merge changes from trunk into our repository (i.e. to reduce 
the set of differences between trunk and our code).  It wasn't meant to 
be a suggestion on how to handle this situation elsewhere.
