While this would be nice for several reasons, it's not necessarily the
first step/a necessary prerequisite to what I was suggesting/trying to
describe.

This is essentially all I was suggesting/getting at - & yes, it's
optional, but it's the best way to catch those breakages long before
the reach the upstream repo or any post-commit bots.

I think the idea's been successfully communicated, at least, so I'll
leave it at that :)
