I've commited the vector-gep patch, with the trivial improvements mentioned.
As for the other patches, I'm not 100% sure on how to update them. The
discussions have so far pointed out that the frontend might need change
instead of the changes I've proposed. I'll see if I can summarize the
discussion somewhere during the next days (but no time now).
