I figured it out.

The installation instructions for the latest for osx could be a little clearer.  The online docs + docs 
included are a little vague.

Basically - the fixheaders doesn't exist in the binary distribution.  All that is required to build the osx v 
ersion is install the binary distribution, add it to the end of your path and then configure.  i tried a bunch 
of options before that as I followed the docs, none of which worked until I just tried the simple version.
