After various trial and tribulations, I've determined that automake just isn't 
a good fit for LLVM. LLVM doesn't fit the target application to which automake 
would be suited. While automake has several targets that LLVM needs, the 
correct approach will be to improve the existing GNU Make based makefile 
system to provide the things automake would have given us. Consequently, this 
bug is closed as WONTFIX.
