Kernel changes were merged without changes so we can go ahead with this now. I've retested it on the latest kernel.

It's not pretty, and we cannot blame all of that on the underlying architecture, but at the same time, I don't have better ideas to handle it.

@omjavaid please take a second look, at least at the comments you left last time.
