In most cases that is completely unnecessary cargo-culted code. `Initialize` is called just once, from `SBDebugger::Initialize()`. The only case where this might be useful is when a platform class is (also) used as a base class of some other platform (and the other platform delegates the Initialize call to the base). However:
- that's not the case here
- even for those cases, I think that pattern could be replaced by something cleaner
