I disagree. The things we care about are (a) that this works in C++ implemented commands and (b) that it works in Python commands. This doesn't seem to test either of those things.
Also, I find writing tests for new functionality to be a great way to inform you about what you need to add to the SB API's to support the functionality you are adding. So if you avoid that step when thinking about testing you are likely to miss adding access that you will need or not designing it well because you didn't really try to use it. If you also want to add unit tests to test closer to the metal that's also fine.
