I was told to test [[nodiscard]], which isn't required by the standard anymore either. That was a libcxx test, so I thought I should add this as a libcxx test too. Of course, they're not exactly the same, as that's actually intended to be user-visible and this is only so incidentally. Is that the basis for the distinction you're making?
