The code looks good. Two comments:
- [optional] given that we'll likely want to reuse this code for execlp and execvpe (gnu extension), it might be nice to put this directly into some `_utils` file so that it doesn't have to be moved when one of those functions gets added
- I think we also ought to have a test for the EACCES scenario. It should be sufficient to have the test execute a file without the executable bit. I'm not sure what's the easiest way to create one.
