I'm going to use this opportunity to complain about the definition of LIBC_INLINE_ASM, which uses `asm volatile`. The `volatile` part is only needed when the asm has side-effects that cannot be modeled through asm constraints, which is often not the case (and this function is a great example of that). `</rant>`
