The intrinsics have to work with C also, so they have to use raw pointer. But it will lead to accidental UB as we have in the earlier version, where `nullptr` was passed directly to the builtins: https://godbolt.org/z/qE4qoq7av
I don't see the problem with either keeping only 3-input version `add_overflow(T a, T b, T &res)`, in which the compiler should be able to optimize when the result is not used, or adding a 2-input version `add_overflow(T a, T b)` in which the correct builtins `__builtin_add_overflow_p` should be used instead: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Integer-Overflow-Builtins.html#index-_005f_005fbuiltin_005fadd_005foverflow_005fp
