Mostly AI review comments that I though are worth looking into.

Two small points: the workaround in §5.2 could be spelled in full as `-mllvm -use-alloc-runtime`. In the appendix, the descriptor-based `CharacterCompare` entry point is never called from flang lowering (character comparisons are lowered element-wise to the scalar entries), so that bug is real but unreachable from flang-compiled code; worth saying so.
