Hi @JDPailleux - Thanks for the followup on this!

I've retested your branch at a8ac82f and confirmed that it still compiles Caffeine's [native-multi-image test](https://github.com/BerkeleyLab/caffeine/blob/main/app/native-multi-image.F90) with `-DASSERTIONS -DHAVE_SAVE_COARRAY` enabled and now executes as expected, without assertion failures.
