There are few things that you're missing here, unfortunately:

0. Everything is API-rate limited.
1. Every change triggers notifications
2. Every change updates "last modified" timestamp

And no, GitHub is not a graph database which you can use as you could imagine.

Though, patches are always welcome ;)
