There's a comment above the asserts. They look more formatted with a
fixed-width font. If you feel strongly, I can add linebreaks and a
string, but if this assertion fails one needs to look at the code
anyway, so I'm not sure it's terribly useful.

The GUID struct has to have 8 bytes at the end. I'm not sure writing
"8" as "array_lengthof(something)" makes things much clearer in this
