You could try emailing the author of the list and see if they would allow you to place a comment in the issue, perhaps including an alternate resolution.  I don't know if the current LWG chair will be comfortable with that procedure or not.

One of the surest ways to get an issue to a higher priority is to regularly attend meetings, and be patient but alert to opportunities to bring a particular issue up for discussion.  I.e. sometimes the chair will ask:  Does anyone have a particular issue they would like looked at before we plow through them in some pre-arranged order?
