I'm not sure I follow. Are you asking for regex more advanced than Extended POSIX regular expressions supported by the {{}} regex matching syntax?

The match machinery is getting quite sophisticated. I think it's worth considering regex, probably the C++ variant given the target audience.

My belief is that the matcher will grow in capability until it reaches the capability of regular expressions either way.
