There is no way to mutate the type of a function; you have to make a new 
one.  That said, it's not actually that much code; see, for example, 
DeadArgumentEliminationPass::DeleteDeadVarargs in 
lib/Transforms/IPO/DeadArgumentElimination.cpp .
