[PATCH] Handle set but unused warning on Release No Assertions builds

Hi,
Our bots are generating warnings on some of our Release builds because we have Assertions turned off.  Attached is a patch which should help to alleviate this problem.  If someone could review this and if it is acceptable please commit it for me.  I do not have commit privileges.  Thanks in advance.
