BTW, I just want to encourage bike shedding on any of the names I have
chosen here. I'm somewhat just picking names to make progress where I'm
sure that the name won't at least be actively confusing or misleading and
relying on folks to pipe up with better or cleaner ideas. =]

I'm probably weird, but I have two things in my head "No Op" which is just
an abbreviation that I would write, well, as I did. Then there is a nop
which is a single thing...

Anyways, I don't think there is a good answer here. Maybe what this really
means is that "noop", with any spelling or punctuation, isn't actually a
good way to name these things. Is there a better word? Ones that I
considered:

- dummy
- test
- stub

Others? Favorites?
