Yes, scheduling is the same for compute and graphics.  I think someone
was working on sub-register liveness tracking.  You may want to ask
about this on LLVMDev.

I think there is also a way we can work around this in R600's scheduler
by doing some manipulations on the Schedule DAG before scheduling, but
I'm not sure how this works.
