[PATCH] First set of patches for type uniquing

I submitted r189600 as the last piece from my earlier attachment for the
2nd set of patches.

r189518 to provide coverage as suggested by David above.
With r189600, uuid testing case will error out.

I will submit a separate patch to add mangling support for uuid.
