Ok, I would suggest something like this to make it more obvious.

SDValue RV = performIntegerAbsCombine(N, DAG);
if (RV.getNode())
  return RV;

// Try forming BMI if it's available.
if (!Subtarget->hasBMI())
  return SDValue();
