The problem you were encountering is that the Compiler-RT CMake build used to
require being configured as part of an LLVM build. Today this is no longer
true, however you do need to have an LLVM source directory or installation in
order to use all features of the system.

Since this bug is years old, and I know the workflow is currently supported I'm
going to mark it as resolved. If you have further issues when working on LLVM
3.9 or LLVM trunk please file new bugs, and I promise we'll try to be more
prompt.</pre>
