The svn revision I mentioned was created after reading your initial comment
here. Only after the change was committed and returned to bugzilla realized
that you had attached a patch.

I would appreciate some testing by people who actually use the gold plugin
(i.e. you)

Bug reopened because there are platforms where lto+gold are ignored by the
build scripts.
